Paul Heaton, the lyrical genius behind
The Beautiful South and
The Housemartins is about to release his new album
The Cross Eyed Rambler. It will be the 14th album of his career and his first release as a solo artist.
For the first time since 1986 and the birth of The Housemartins, Heaton has stripped his sound back to a basic four piece band. Combined with a bagful of brand new songs, and a ‘freshness’ normally associated with an artist's salad days,
The Cross Eyed Rambler is an album full both of the familiar and the genuinely surprising.
The album is a showcase for the diversity of Heaton’s song-writing talent, from the pop wizardry of 'Mermaids And Slaves' and 'Good Old Fashioned Town' to songs such as 'The Ring From Your Hand', 'The Pub' and 'Little Red Rooster', where Heaton’s words begins to sound like an Alan Bennett of his day. This is the first real album for the credit-crunch!
The album is released on 7th July and we'll be keeping you up to date with what's going on here at
